Some of my favorite output tends to be side effects and happy accidents while creating a totally different thing.
A lot of creative work comes down to simply spending enough time in a medium or area to make intriguing mistakes and then be able to explore them. You're brute forcing unexpected, interesting directions. As you do this more, you get better at sniffing out the interesting ones, or even anticipating approaches that yield more options.
